During Kenya’s last post-election violence, families got displaced. Communities invaded Kenya’s Chepalungu forest and made it their safe home. Over time, efforts to reclaim it have been put in place. With a team of teen mothers, we make energy saving stoves. Our solution has been sustainable over time as we use locally available materials of scrap metal, cement and clay soil to make our stoves. Our stoves have a smaller opening that reduces upto 90 percent of firewood that would have otherwise been found through deforestation. The stoves, being made of clay, preserve the heat for long. The stoves are affordable costing 10USD and serves a household for upto 6 years. Whenever we come to make our stoves, we also create avenues for community dialogues on climate action and SRH that has boosted reclamation of Chepalungu Forest in Bomet County, Kenya.
